And now my brain is being eaten by fan fiction. Not that it isn't normally, but Tears of the Kingdom has caused me a large shift in which fic is eating my brain. Breath of the Wild had already tweaked me a little bit, but now?

I'd actually rather be poking at my wips than doing this. |D

That said, other than all that, I live. My job still sucks, the world is still a dumpster fire. I still need to get my ass in gear on some shit for my livestreaming stuff.

Still.... still debating Tumblr. Still waiting to see if they'll either get rid of the live thing or make it opt in instead of opt out that you have to remember to do again once a week. Blegh.

I have such a back log of games, but my brain is muse chow for fic stuff right now.

Anyway, that's where shit's at for me. How is it out there in the void?
fox_the_kitsune: (Blegh)
This one was... something. I dunno.

I was kind of a sidekick protagonist. The 'hero' of the story presented in this dream was a guitarist, with death metal band apparently, and working hard to get things going for his band. Some jerkass was causing him problems and keeping the band from the gig that could be their breakthrough. Though the guitarist wished, loudly, for the jerkass to be out of his way, he would never actually have done any harm. Unfortunately, the jerkass disappeared under mysterious circumstances. The guitarist's neighbors in the apartment building he was living in wee supsicious, but remained civil to him. In the meantime, he and I were running around trying to find out what happened to the jerkass. There seemed to be voodoo or some other dark magic involved. Then people in the apartment building started to vanish. I had the misfortune of being alone with a couple of tenants when one woman found her husband's body. The womand and her friend grabbed me and tied me up (somehow, this involved bedsheets and a karate belt). They figured I knew something. Meanwhile, in the background, a posse was being formed to go find the guitarist. I was taken somewhere. A townsquare maybe? On the way, I noticed my restraints were coming loose (really? bedsheets and a karate belt?) and I was hoping no one else had noticed and I would have a chance the get away. No dice. The woman whose husband had been found dead noticed and fixed it, securing it better than before.

I woke up then with the impression that what would have followed would have been a lynching once the posse caught the guitarist.

Also, this has given me a plot bunny. Somehow. The bunny calls for Kingdom Hearts fic, possibly AU, possibly not. The details would get fleshed out a little more and would have either Sora in my spot and Riku in the guitarist's spot or Roxas and Axel in those roles respectively. My brain is a weird thing.

On a note not even related dreams, while looking to trade Pokemon on the globla trade, I found a Tepig whose OT was JESUS and they were asking for a Suicune in return. This amused me.

I've know I've been commenting on recipes out of this library and then derping on making the list. Well, I finally made the list. |D

Also, holy crap, this is my first non-fan fiction post since moving here from LJ. XD

Anywho, BOOKS. Format is author or publisher followed by book title. Notes in parentheses. I haven't used all of these yet. Book I have used recipes out of are marked with an asterik.

Steven Raichlen - How to Grill*, Planet Barbecue*, The Barbecue Bible*, Barbecue Bible! Sauces, Rubs and Marinades
Mark Bittman - How to Cook Everything*
Emeril Lagasse - There's A Chef In My World (yes this book sounds like it's for kids. Doesn't change the fact that there's good recipes in it.)
Pam Anderson (not that one!) - The Perfect Recipe
Nancy Silverton - Breads from the La Brea Bakery
Paragon Books - Making Fresh Bread* (This book calls for a set amount of flour for each recipe, but the ones I've uses so far are better with less.)
Paragon Books - Asian: The Essential Recipe Collection
Grace Young - The Wisdom of the Chinese Kitchen
Eileen Yin-Feilo - The Chinese Chicken Cookbook*
Hiroko Shimbo - The Japanese Kitchen*
Alton Brown - I'm Just Here For More Food (This is his second book and is all baking. I have yet to get the first.)
Madhur Jaffrey - World Vegetarian*
Debbie Moose - Deviled Eggs: 50 Recipes from Simple to Sassy
Mary Lou Heiss - Green Tea: 50 Hot Drinks, Cool Quenchers, and Sweet and Savory Treats*
Sally Sampson - Kebabs: 52 Easy Recipes for Year-Round Grilling*
Mud Puddle Books - Cooking with Beer* (NOTE: The Peppered Pork Tenderloin recipe in this book calls for a full cup of salt. That's far too much, as I discovered the hard way. It was way too salty, though it wound up being nice reheated with leftover cabbage. I haven't gotten around to making it again, but I might recommend a half cup instead.)
Better Homes and Gardens - Biggest Book of Slow Cooker Recipes*
Pilsbury - Best Chicken Cookbook*

I also have a reprint of an old Betty Crocker's Picture Cookbook. Tasty sounding recipes, but as they aren't altered at all from what they were in the 1950s, there's a lot more fat called for in these recipes than would seem normal now. I haven't made anything out of this book yet, but I intend to eventually. Might do it as is once and then figure out how to alter it for less fat.

Yeah, there's no other point to this post.

So, I have this odd little idea and I have to wonder where it can go in the right hands, so here goes.

Anyone familiar with Clock Solitaire? If so, this ought to make sense, if not uh... Google it?

Anywho, the idea here is to take the names of thirteen characters, any thirteen, and assign them either a number 1-13. Ace is 1 and King is 13, obviously. Now, play a game of Clock Solitaire and as you clear all four of a rank out, note the character name attached to that rank. When you've cleared two ranks out, you have either a pair write fic or draw art of. It can be either friendship or pairing or even a fight.

Examples in here. )

If anyone thinks of a better way to explain that, be my guest. I'd attempt some writing or art of it myself, but my muses aren't being the most cooperative right now.

Pffffffft.

I've been carrying on the same thread at [livejournal.com profile] dear_mun for about three weeks now. I wish I could tempt this mun and her muse to where I have my muse, but that might not be fair to my muse. Poor guy would end up with two versions of his best friend to deal with.

It could be fun, though.

This sounds like it belongs on RP!S...

Yeah, I got nothing else...

Pfffffft

So... I took today off from work because I was feeling like utter shit... and wound up having to run down there anyway. Not to get my check, since they could have sent it home with my dad (we work in the same department, though I got it anyway while I was there), but because he somehow managed to leave with his sneakers instead of his work boots.

Yeeeah... He managed this because he had put his sneakers on to go and make sure his hard hat (even though we don't work in a department that needs them we have to wear them when we walk underneath the coating line conveyor) and his glasses were in the car he was going to take. When he came back in the house, he simply forgot to change his shoes when he finished getting ready for work.

Topic of discussion turned to food between me and my sister... we had beer can chicken for dinner last night. I was thinking of our dinner options for tomorrow...

Me: *pauses, thinking, then turns to sister* We're not crazy enough to try beer can duck, are we?

Sister: o.O; Uh, no.

Me: *has issue of brain misbehaving* WTF, brain? I just had an image of a featherless... either Daffy or Donald duck... with a beer can up his ass...

Sister: *snerk* ... *mutters* Someone got a cookbook and porn mixed up.

Me: o___O; *snerk*

Both: *cackle*

This happened only minutes after I noted that star thistle honey smells faintly of wet dog.

Oh dear...

So, while discussing who's going where in the Kingdom Hearts verse in our self-insert riddled game, the subject of Atlantica and an OC who is a replica of Sephiroth came. The OC's player has confirmed that he's not going, but was also commenting on seashells, because her self-insert is going there. Unfortunately, it lead to the image of Sephiroth... because this OC is nearly identical in appearance and somewhat close in personality... Sephiroth with seashells.

That lead to this:

Fox the Kitsune (6:36:41 PM): *already has the mental image*
ariakitsune (6:37:05 PM): ...
ariakitsune (6:37:28 PM): I'm picturing tiny little seashells on his nipples...

Fox the Kitsune (6:47:13 PM): Very

You know those Jesus fish things some people put on their cars? It might either have a cross for the fish's eye or have 'Jesus' in letters formed to fit the football/eye shape that makes up the body of the fish? Or the Darwin variety where the fish has legs and may or may not be eating a smaller fish?

The Flying Spaghetti Monster has something like this too. It has the football shape that would otherwise be the body of the fish in the Jesus or Darwin ones... but no tail. Instead, it has... noodly appendages on either side, eyestalks of some kind on top and FSM inside fitting the football. If I'd thought of it, I would have taken a picture when I saw the one this past Sunday. Needless to say, it made my day and I remained amused for much of the rest of the day, despite being unable to locate a PS3.

The other random thing I had to mention... burns. In a sparkly way.

Some dude at work has a black and red Honda... it's either a Civic or an Accord. Today, I just noticed that it sparkles. In sunlight. I AM NOT MAKING THIS UP. The car has a sort of glittery finish to it that I had not noticed before due to either not paying attention or the weather being cloudy. I am still amused over this.

*\o/*

Six years after my aunt screwed me out of it. I was going to reserve Pokemon Coliseum for the Jirachi offer, but my mom said I should let my aunt, who worked at Target at the time, get it for me. Like an idiot, I agreed. My aunt didn't tell me until after she got me the game and the guide that she couldn't reserve it at Target because employees aren't allowed to reserve things there. So, no Jirachi.

Until now. I was in gamestop looking for a PS3 yesterday and saw the sign for the Jirachi offer. Neither I nor my sister had a DS on hand, so I went back today on the way home from work. I also reserved HeartGold and SoulSilver (yes both; there's two people in this house that'll be playing it) since it is likely that it'll sell out kind of quick.

Yay?

Gazpacho. This recipe came out of Wegman's Menu magazine from Summer of '08. Naturally, some of the ingredients they call for are their own store brand, but you could probably get away with another brand on most of them. Not sure about the veggie juice, though. I did use their store brand for that. It's more of a summer thing, but it is tasty and ridiculiously easy to make.

Makes 11 cups

Prep time: 20 minutes

Chill time: 2 hours

The recipe

1 seedless cucumber, peeled, 1-inch dice
1 medium sweet pepper, cored, seeded, 1-inch dice
1/2 medium onion, peeled, 1-inch dice
3 cloves of garlic, peeled and chopped
1 container (46 ounces) veggie juice
3 tomatoes, cored, 1-inch dice
1/4 cup chianti red wine vinegar
1/4 olive oil
Juice of 1 lime (about 1-2 Tbsp)
1 jalapeno, seeded and chopped (wear gloves, dude just do it <.< )
1/2 cup chopped fresh cilantro
1/2 tsp sea salt (you could probably use any course salt)

Combine all ingredients in a stock pot or something else big enough and puree it with a handheld blender. Then chill it for 2 hours and serve it.

Music!

I normally don't advertise music like this, but, well... she's my cousin. And she's damned good.

Don't want to spend the 99 cents? Here's her myspace, which also has links to her youtube and her facebook.

In Pokemon Diamond/Pear/Platinum, there is a sailor in Canalave City who takes you to a handful of islands in the west sea. He is connected to the catching of two legendary Pokemon.

It just dawned on me how messed up it is that his name is Eldritch.

I said it was random.

I had too much fun last night. |D

Went into NY, met a LiveJournal friend (you know who you are 8D), went to the Guggenheim (they were working on the exhibits 8|), went to the Museum of Natural History and puttered around in there until they closed, and saw my cousin playing a gig. She played all the songs on that list there in her myspace plus a fantastic rendition of Come Together.
